Wrap it Up: A Gift Wrapping Procedure

Updated: Nov 18

A Christmas tree with snow falling lightly to the ground.

It’s that time of year again! The time of year when we spend a bit too much money on the perfect gifts for the people we love most.

The work doesn’t stop when we find the gifts; they still need to be wrapped. For some people, wrapping is the best part. For others, it’s something to check off on their to-do list.

As my family’s unofficially designated Christmas gift wrapper, I’m here to share my go-to procedure with you. Gift wrapping should be fun! It’s all in what you make of it. Follow the six steps below to make gift wrapping your new favourite holiday activity.

1. Make sure you have everything you need.

Do you have enough wrapping paper left over from last year? What about the basics, like tape, scissors, markers, and ribbon? You might need to make a quick trip to the store before you get started.

2. Grab your favourite hot drink.

Whether it’s hot chocolate or eggnog, grab something that tastes like Christmas. This will sustain you throughout your gift wrapping.

3. Find the perfect spot.

Nobody wants to wrap gifts with little to no space. Make sure you find a cozy, warm, and roomy area to spread out. If the people you’re wrapping for are home, tell them to steer clear of your space. Spoiling presents doesn’t make for an enjoyable wrapping experience!

4. Lay out all the supplies you need.

This step is essential. Before you get comfortable, grab your gifts, wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, scissors, tape, ribbon, markers, and cards. Nothing is worse than sitting down with your drink and having to get up five times to grab something.

5. Turn on a Christmas movie or Christmas music.

Take your pick! Choose something that sets the festive mood, whether it’s The Grinch or Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas album.

6. Get wrapping!

Let the fun begin! Roll out your wrapping paper and grab your first gift. Enjoy your drink and embrace that Holiday spirit.

I hope these steps make gift wrapping a bit more fun for you! Before you know it, the holiday season will be over, and you’ll be sad the Christmas tree needs to come down. Make the most of the mundane holiday activities, like gift wrapping, and cherish the Christmas season before it flies by!
