Who is Scriptorium?
Scriptorium, located in Edmonton, Alberta, specialises in technical communication including creating procedural and technical manuals, training programs and project management as required. Since 2009, we have grown our client base using our experience writing standard safety and operating procedural manuals, policy manuals, and training materials. We also offer customised training courses to help teach your team the foundations of clear and effective business communications.
We have the skills and experience to plan, develop and write your project well – in less time. Save your staff the extra headaches and let Scriptorium do the writing for you. We work with people in a variety of positions from management to field crews and are comfortable gathering information from sources in the office and in the field. With a combination of first-hand interviews and secondary research, Scriptorium writers craft a written product that reflects your company’s needs and message leaving no trace of our involvement. And if you need an extra polish for your documents or products, our graphic designer can make you look as well as sound good.
Our team is comprised of well-trained and experienced writers, instructors, and designers who love what they do.
Annette Wierstra, BA, MAIIC (Senior Partner) has turned her proclivity for organisation and order into a career by combining it with her love of writing. As a technical writer who has been writing professionally for over 15 years, she has experience creating and managing multiple training and procedural projects with a focus on safety and policy manuals, procedure manuals, and training materials. Annette has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta, a Bachelor of Applied Communications in Professional Writing from MacEwan University, and Masters of Arts in International and Intercultural Communications from Royal Roads University.
Before working as a technical writer, Annette worked as a journalist and managing editor. She also wrote, managed and developed content for websites. Her varied experience means that she has a range of writing and project management skills to create your project deliverable. She started her technical writing career working at EPCOR Water Services for four years. When she isn’t writing technical communications for clients, she teaches technical writing and other communication courses to students in the Communications program at MacEwan University.
Pamela Scott (Senior Partner) has always loved to write but it wasn’t until she found a way to marry her logical and practical side with her creative side, that she found her career. After 7 years working in customer service, she went to MacEwan University and took one year of general studies hoping to find that elusive “love’. She fell in love with professional writing and thought she might be a speechwriter until she discovered technical writing. Pamela completed her Diploma in Professional Writing. She then began working as a technical writer for EPCOR until a new career chose her. Pamela has always been happiest and most effective when she has lots of things on the go, so right now with managing a family and business she says, “I feel like I finally got it right.”
Jaclyn Lawrence, MA (Senior Writer) has turned a life-long passion for words into a career, writing and editing everything from oilfield manuals to magazine articles. She earned a Bachelor of Applied Communications in Professional Writing Degree from MacEwan University, where she explored the technical writing, rhetoric, business communications, and creative writing streams, and a Masters of Creative Writing with Distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University. For over a decade, she has worked freelance and in-house writing contracts for a variety of clientele. With experience tutoring all ages and teaching online and on-campus for MacEwan and NAIT, she continues to teach advanced communications at MacEwan. And what doesn’t appear on her resume is the time spent reading or writing just because she can.
